Literature Text

It all started in high school. Arthur and (name) fell in love. They were high school sweethearts, spending all of their time together. Sadly, her family never liked Arthur for some unknown reason. They told her to stay away from him, he would leave her one day. (Name) would argue that he would never to such a horrid thing; Arthur loved her. Of course he wasn't good with words, acting almost brash at times but she cared for him. On several occasions, she would ask him "How deep is your love for me?" Arthur wasn't very good at admitting his feelings or anything of that sort, when he would answer, it sounded harsh and caused (Name) to cry. Soon the love-struck couple started to fight because of her family. He called her parents hypocrites, she threw a vase at him. She would vent of the family pressure, he just took it and listened until she was just too wore out to vent anymore. Then he would  try to comfort her, but once again, he wasn't good with the words that involved Love. She would burst into tears and he would feel even worse.

One afternoon, after graduation, the couple sat in a park holding hands. Arthur seemed rather upset and (Name) knew it. They have been dating for 4 years now, regardless of the family pressure. Then he finally told her, he was going to London to further his studies. Of course she was sad but very happy for him.

"I'm not very good with words. But all I know is that I love you. If you allow me, I will take care of you for the rest of my life. As for your family, I'll try my best to talk them round. Will you marry me?" He said, getting down on one knee in front of her as she sat on the bench. Tears started to swell in her eyes and a bright smile.

"Of course I will Arthur!" She said, tackled him to the ground with a hug. Once he was able to sit back up, he slipped a simple but beautiful ring on her finger. This day was the happiest she has ever been in her life. Afterwards, with Arthur's determination, the family finally came around, much to (Name's) delight. They saw that Arthur truly made their loved one so happy.
Within a month of the engagement, (Name) and Arthur stood in the airport, with all of his belongings. Tears fell on her face, knowing that he won't be just down the street. To be there when the flowers bloomed, she will be all alone. Arthur wiped her tears and gave her a loving kiss on the lips.

"I will come back to you. I will write to you every day. I promise love." He said, wrapping her in his arms one last time. Two years seem like a lifetime to be without each other.

"I will be waiting for your letters Arthur." (Name) promised, wiping more of the traitorous tears.

"Goodbye (Name) I love you." With the last kiss, he picked up his carry on and boarded his flight. It took every ounce of self-restraint to not run onto that plane with him. It killed the poor girl to watch him walk away without her at his side. Being brave for him, she held her head up and walked out of the exit of the airport. (Nam) go herself a decent job and worked her butt off while Arthur was overseas. They kept constant contact, not letting their love fade. It was hard on both of them. Truly it was. (Name)'s mom suggested to have his half-brother to keep her company, Alfred. Al knew that she was missing Arthur terribly, for she would just cry at night. So he kept by her side and slowly they became good friends, until he joined the military and sent to fight the war. Now she is truly alone. The days were long and the nights were even longer.

One morning, while walking to work, (Name) had this strange feeling. It wasn't good feeling either. But she shook it off and continued her track. When (Name) crossed the street, the sound of screeching tires rang in her ears. The car hit her straight on; she was launched 10 feet and slid another few feet more.  According to the reports, the man raced off, not even offering to help her. Or to even check if she was alive.

When she woke up, she found herself in the hospital bed with all of these machines connected to her. Her mother held her hand and was almost in hysterics. Her father was the one who noticed that she was awake. He came to her bedside with her mother.

"Oh my poor baby." Her mother sobbed. In attempt to comfort her, (Name) tired to talk.

No noise came out. Her mother rested her head on (name's) uninjured shoulder and cried. Her father had the look of shock on his face. At that moment, the doctor came into the room with his clipboard.

"What is wrong with her!" Her father demanded.

"Due to her brain injuries, she is unable to speak. There was just too much damage. She may never talk again. It would take years for the brain to heal enough to learn to speak again." The doctor gave them the grim news.
(Name) cried silent tears.

It was two weeks before they deemed her healed enough to leave the hospital. Once she got home, she discovered that there was over 100 phone calls on her phone. All of them from Arthur. Even more emails when she opened her laptop. She cried even more. There was no way she could tell him that she was mute. The phone would ring, but she couldn't answer. She physically couldn't. It broke her heart. (Name) didn't let this go on for long, maybe a few days. Arthur was almost pleading to hear from her. It flat out killed her. So for his sake, she sat at her kitchen table with a tiny postal box.

'Dear Arthur,
I am sorry but I cannot wait any longer. I wish you the best life you deserve it.
(Name)'

Tears fell onto the paper, as she wrote. She didn't want to do this to him, but she needed to give him the chance to find someone that will stay by his side, and that can talk. The intentions were good; she didn't want to burden him with such a crippling condition. She took one last look at her ring before she took it off. It felt like it was burning as it slid off. It felt heavy in her hands, much like her heart. She folding the letter and set the ring gently on top inside of the box. Her father was the one who mailed it, for she couldn't even walk outside of the house without bursting into tears.

The first 6 months was hard for her, having to learn sigh language and to find a job that will accept her. Eventually she did find one. It was even harder to not think of Arthur, the pain he must of felt when he received that box. It was for the best. She knew it and hopefully he will understand. Her parents insisted on her moving, to cut all contact from him. With a heavy heart, she did. She lived on her own, still kept one picture of Arthur and herself in the apartment. It stayed at her bedside. Her parents couldn't prevent her from crying and wanting to be at his side at night. It got to a point that she couldn't even remember what his voice sounded like. What he smelt like, it scared her. Nevertheless, she accepted the harsh truth. Alfred found out when he came back, she begged and pleaded for him not to say anything to Arthur. He hated not telling his brother the truth, but he promised her that he wouldn't tell.
Almost a year later, Alfred came to the door with a letter. Confused, she tilted her head and grabbed it from his hands. On the front, it had her name and her current address. Curiosity burned inside of her, for she wanted to know what it was. Opening it, inside was a wedding invitation to Arthur's wedding. Her heart shattered.

"Look who the girl is."Alfred insisted, helping her to a chair.

'We invite you to celebrate the marriage of Mr. Arthur Kirkland and Ms.(First Name) (Last Name)'
Bewildered, she looked at Alfred. He smiled and pointed at looked in the doorway. In the doorway, stood Arthur with a bouquet of her favorite flowers in his hands. She was crying even harder as she shot out of the chair and walked towards him. He handed her the flowers and smiled.

'I've spent a year's time to learn sign language. Just to let you know that I've not forgotten our promise. Let me have the chance to be your voice. I Love You.' He signed at her. With that said, he slipped the ring back to its proper place on her hand.

She smiled the first time.
Oh my goodness, I was actually in tears while I was writing this. Not a very original title but whatever. Another request down! Anyway I hope y'all liked it. This is based on another story I found. The original story wasn't very well written but it was cute neithertheless. Didn't help that I was listening to sweet nothings songs the whole time either...

The only warning I have is that you might end up crying. And the fluffiness....

:iconxxangelsxdemonsxx: Hope you liked it~

I do not own the original story, Arthur or you. I only own this rewrite.
